Welcome to my blog!   My name’s Mike.   I’ll try to keep this short.

The idea for this blog came to me as I was trying to decide what would help motivate me to try and complete a gran fondo in the summer of 2015.   If you don’t know what a gran fondo is, then you can check out the blog for a full description.    The other reason for the blog was to help hold me accountable to you, the reader, as I embark on this journey of trying to get back in shape so that I can actually complete a gran fondo and not have to hop a ride back on the slow wagon – not only embarrassing myself, but shaming my family for all enternity.

As well, it’s my hope that this blog will help inspire others that are out there who are looking for someone to motivate them to undertake a similar task.

As for me, I just turned 45 and I’m a high school teacher.   Also, I’m a father of three very busy children and husband to one amazingly talented woman who’s a very gifted artist.

For the past 14 years, though,  my life really hasn’t been my own – so to speak.   As a  high school teacher, father, husband, and volunteer firefighter, I haven’t had a lot of free time to look after myself – lame excuse, I know!!     Now, however, my children have reached the age where they are more independent and my presence doesn’t seem to be required as much as it used to – kinda sad in some respects – but also kind of liberating.   I get to rediscover one of my passions – bike riding.    More about this later.

So I invite you to tag along to discover where this journey will take us.   Be patient – I’m new at this so it’ll be a learning curve at first.   However, I teach english so there’s hope!

Thanks for stopping by.
